About Jen Moore
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
Here’s a little more about me:
- I started my career in Middle Childhood Education as a 4th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher, and I absolutely loved my job!
- I got my Master’s Degree in Reading Education, K-12. Helping students realize the joy of reading, especially those who have been reluctant or struggling readers in the past, is one of the best parts of teaching for me.
- I never thought I’d leave the classroom – that is, until our twin boys arrived 14 weeks early (at only 26 weeks’ gestation).
- Our boys’ medical needs over the years have been both varied and complex. Our day-to-day is touched by Cerebral Palsy, seizure management, shunted Hydrocephalus, extreme Sensory Processing Disorder, full-time G-Tube feeds, Cortical Vision Impairment, ADHD, and considerations for wheelchair mobility.
- One of our twins is more typically-developing, the other is developmentally delayed. One of our boys walks independently, the other is a wheelchair user. One brother is a strong communicator, the other is considered “limited verbal.” They are BOTH silly, joyful, loving, and absolutely incredible people!
- My sons have, hands down, been my greatest teachers.
- I love to learn, and I’m a voracious reader! I am guilty of having stacks of books all over the house. Gifting books is my love language.
- I wrote for a faith-based parenting blog when my boys were young, called “Texting the Truth: Real Moms, Real Grace” (textingthetruth.com). It was a wonderful experience. It inspired me to keep writing, and to learn more about the writing and publishing process.
- My husband had the idea for a book that parents could read to their babies during Kangaroo Care time in the NICU. It took 10 years, but we finally wrote it. It’s called, The Littlest Kangaroo, and all proceeds support NICU families.
- I have a huge heart for mental health. My goal is to help those who experience the ups and downs of anxiety, depression, and neurodivergence feel seen, understood, and empowered. I want to help those who love them learn and understand how best to support them on their journey, as well.
- I’ve kept my teaching license current over the years by taking university courses in Special Education, and attending conferences related to my boys’ unique needs.
Today my passions for teaching, living out the faith, and fostering support for neurodivergent families have all coalesced and blessed me with a most rewarding role: supporting K-8 Catholic school teachers and faith formation volunteers in our local family of parishes. My faith has always been an integral part of who I am. Our family’s journey, however, has helped me dig deeper into the tough questions, connect more authentically to my purpose, and to truly find peace in the letting go.
I believe that our family is exactly what God intended. It’s been an incredible journey, and one crazy story getting to where we are today. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and I hope you’ll keep coming back to learn and grow alongside us.
